Price Testing

Price testing lets you compare your current (“original”) prices with one or more test prices for the same products. You can measure how different price points affect performance metrics such as conversion rate, revenue per visitor, or average order value, all without duplicating products or manually editing your live theme.

Once you have reviewed and approved the modified theme created during your first test, future price tests reuse that approved version. Setup is much faster unless your main theme changes.

How Theme Preparation Works

When you click Duplicate & Start Theme Prep, Shogun creates a private copy of your main theme. This ensures your live store remains untouched while we safely inject the pricing test logic in the background.

You will see different progress states during theme prep:

• Setting up: Shogun is preparing your duplicate theme.
• Ready for review: The theme is ready for you to preview.
• Approved: You have reviewed and approved the theme, so it is ready for launch.

How Shogun Keeps Prices Accurate

Shogun stores all test price data separately from your Shopify product data. This ensures that:

• Your live prices remain unchanged in Shopify.
• Each visitor sees the correct price in the storefront, cart, and checkout.
• Multi-currency stores automatically display accurate converted prices.

If you start, pause, or stop a test, Shogun automatically updates all related data, ensuring prices stay in sync across your storefront.

Your Workflow in Shogun

1. Prepare Your Theme

• Click Duplicate & Start Theme Prep to create your duplicate theme.
• You can continue configuring your test while theme prep runs in the background.
• If setup takes more than 15 minutes, see the Troubleshooting section.

2. Configure Your Test

• Choose which products or collections you want to include in your price test.
• Set the test prices you want to measure.
• Make sure all prices are valid (no negative values or empty fields).

3. Review Your Theme

• When test and theme prep are complete, click Review Test to open the preview.
• You will see your test prices live on your storefront, along with a small sidebar to help you navigate.
• If anything appears incorrect, click 'Contact Support' directly from the card.

4. Launch Your Test

• Once you have previewed and approved the theme, click Launch Price Test.
• Launching a new test will automatically pause any others that are currently running.
• You can stop a running test at any time and choose to resume paused ones later.

Troubleshooting and Maintenance

Is the setup taking too long?

If “Setting up” lasts more than about 15 minutes, refresh the page. If it remains stuck, use the Support button on the card, and our team will investigate immediately.

Theme changed or deleted?

If you change your main theme or delete the duplicate, the test stops automatically. You will see “Not Started” again. Just rerun theme prep to create a new pricing duplicate.

Error message during prep?

If Shopify rejects a file during setup, you will see an 'Errored' status. Click the "Contact Support" link, which includes all the information our team needs to resolve the issue quickly.

Edited product prices during a running test?

If you update a product’s price directly in Shopify while a test is running, update the same product in Shogun and republish to keep everything aligned.

Need a clean preview?

Preview links remember your test configuration. To reset, clear your browser storage for your store’s domain or open the link in a private window.
